DuPont State Recreational Forest is an absolute gem for hikers, mountain bikers and anyone looking to explore that beauty of Western North Carolina.
Positioned equally between Hendersonville and Brevard it offers over 10,000 acres in 70 miles of fun! Whether you’re looking for a short hike to Immaculate waterfalls or an all day adventure on stone capped mountaintops you’ll find it at DuPont Forest.
There are three main parking lots on the east side of the park where you can easily access some of the Park’s most beautiful waterfalls. High Falls and hooker Falls parking lots are the most direct routes cheap accessing these waterfalls.
During the week you’ll have no problem with parking but during the weekend you want to get there as early as possible! Hooker Falls is an excellent swimming hole with a 15ft tall waterfall and large calm pool for swimming and floating. there’s also a nice rock beach that was put in a number of years ago where you can lay out and get some sun!
One of the most fun parts is you can take a tube and get in near the waterfall and then float down to the other end of the pool which takes about 10 to 15 minutes. Get out and walk back up to the waterfall and do it again! Your own natural lazy river!
If you’re looking for something a little bit more rugged head over to the other side of the park and check out the trail to Stone Mountain. This starts out with a nice flat walk through the woods and then turns right up the side of the mountain for a relatively short but intense hike.
You will walk through hardwood and coniferous forest open meadows and dark mossy crevices. You will be rewarded with large open swathes of granite with unbelievable views of the surrounding Park. Take some time to sit and soak up the views sounds and Sensations!
